Land For Sale

Wilderness Property for Sale on the Black River

Kawartha Lakes, Ontario

The BLACK RIVER PROPERTY

The sparkling Black River flows through the property, winding its way through rocky outcroppings and pristine wetlands. This river is wonderful to swim in, and the canoe routes go from Algonquin to Georgian Bay. Altogether, there’s 900 feet of riverfront on this 24-acre parcel of land.

Surrounded by the protected land of the Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Provincial Park, the land is serviced by the well-maintained Black River Road. A 3-hour drive from Toronto, you will find the property just northeast of Orillia.

Originally inhabited by the Anishinaabe First Nations, the acreage is a sanctuary for many different plants and wild animals, as well as an astounding array of bird species. Tucked into the rock overhang is a patch of Carolinian Forest where trilliums and wild leeks carpet the forest floor in the early spring. Some of the many animals include Bear, Deer, Moose, Wolves and of course Coyotes. The great Blue Heron builds nests throughout the area. A pair of Trumpeter Swans one year raised their young on the property and our personal favorite the Whippoorwills, sing every night.

It is a unique area with a naturally regenerated forest and extensive wetlands. The park contains several sites of ecological value and habitats that support rare species. Some surprising endangered birds and rare plant species have been spotted on the property.

The driveway off the Black River Road heads up the hill to the site of the original homestead, following the path the early farmers used for their wagons. The open field on top of the hill where the stone foundation of the old homestead remains is an approved building site.
